International Folk Dancing

So this evening I had the urge to go to my gym but it was closed. So I was like.. hmm.. what can I do? Andy is at Winedale for another Shakespeare preview, and I didn't really have any plans.

Then I remembered that there's dancing on Saturdays in Austin.. with some research, I found the International Folk Dancers (there's also the Austin Ballroom Dancers).

I went to the Folk dancing (15 blocks from where I live), and was almost immediately recognized as the lady who taught Renaissance dance to them, I haven't been there for years. And I had a really good time. Most of the people were older then me.. some in their 50s and 60s. And it's really... quaint.
Very old world.

The music was from all over, French-Canadian, Bulgarian, Russian, Jewish, etc, and a lot of them has those weird time signatures.. like 15/7 or 11/5 or something. I find the steps easy, but the syncopation tricky.

It was relaxing and invigorating at the same time. I'm glad I went...
We ended with Korobushka, but it was in a circle and a mixer.

Social dancing is like, the best thing ever.

Why don't I do it more?
