improv, gaming, dinner series

Let's see, last friday night I went downtown to catch part of the Iron Improvisor tournament. I saw part of the first show, and the whole second show which I found very delightful. I wish Andy had performed though, it's been a while since I watch him do improv.

Then Sat night was spent playing boardgames, pot-lucking, and hanging out with some friends. It was very nice and chill.

Sunday Andy and I hosted our Sunday dinner series. We actually haven't done one in in a few weeks, but we decided to. It's where Andy and I invite different people from different social groups. This one was the most disorganized by far. By 7 pm, none of the food was ready, but we had some somosas from Swad, and lots of wine. And it's funny, in the beginning the conversation was kinda stilted, as most of these people didn't know each other. And there were occasional silences. And Andy was too busy cooking indian food so he wasn't helping with the social lubrication. But by the end of the dinner, there were laughter and steady conversations as people got comfortable (and tipsy) and it was actually the most social dinner we had. So as usual, Andy pulled it off. Not really sure how he does that.... and the Indian food was delicious. He made some chickpea dish (chole) and really spicy chicken (which I hated at first but ended up loving). And I made... salmon! and rice. fiercecupcake  made pavlova, which was a delicious New Zealand dish named after the ballet dancer. It consists of meringue on the bottom, fresh whip cream on top, and berries over that. Yum. We'll probably skip next Sunday.

Last night was spent cleaning and catching up on BSG (which I thought was a great episode). Tonight we're toying with the idea of going to Trudy's or Austin Restaurant Week.

We had such a good time Sunday night! I'll get back to you with the pavlova recipe and I would LOVE Andy's chickpea recipe! I could eat that stuff for days.
