Austin Distance Challenge

I am crazy, and am seriously thinking about doing this. 7 races, starting with a 10k, ending with a marathon. Apparently you can still sign up for this. http://www.austindistancechallenge.com/events.asp
It starts this Sunday. Packet pickup is Fri/Sat.

Anyone else crazy enough to do this, this year?

I'm going to have to be faster though, they cut the marathon time from 8 hours to 7 hours.

I've lost weight last week too :)

I really wanted to do this, but I just couldn't figure out how to fit it into my schedule. Also, I've been trying to avoid actual running in favor of using the eliptical machine (my right ankle seems to be fucked)

All the races are sunday morning, so there's no schedule conflict there. Training.. is anytime you want if you've the discipline. Or you can sign up for a training program.

I walked the marathon last year. Since I didn't properly train. This year, I may run a bit.. maybe walk 5 mins, run 1 min? we'll see.

Also, you don't have to commit to the entire distance challenge. At packet pick-up or race day, whenever you sign up.. go buy a personal chip, and say you're doing the distance challenge. And do the 10 k.. and then the 10 miler.. and see how far you can go.

Rather then worry about how "slow" you will be.. think of just finishing. Training regimens differ.. you may want to do more walking, if you're ankle is still recovering. if it hurts though, you should prob just rest.

Anyways, see how you feel. Tomorrow and Sat are packet pickup, and Sun at 8 pm is race day. You can pay any of those days.

I've already paid my $321 (I think) for all 7 race registrations and the timing chip.

You only need to improve by less than 1 minute per mile to meet the 7 hour cutoff. That shouldn't be too hard given your overall pace.

Cheers,
Matt

Thanks for the encouragement :)
I think the problem last marathon was by the last 3 miles I was just flagging, and significantly slowed down. The last mile I was limping parts of it... So it's a matter of improving endurance.

I will see you around probably at the races :)

I'm registered for the IBM. I'm planning on doing all 7, including the marathon, but I haven't preregistered for it. I'll see how my body holds up over the season.

I might come down for a half marathon or 20K. It'll depend on my staying in shape and extending my range. I can currently go about 6 miles.

You would still be faster then me I'm sure.

I wouldn't bet either way on my speed for that distance. If I go it will be to participate in the same thing as you, and to hang out before/after, but not to compete in any way, except with myself.
