Tentatively looking around for a new car

My confidence in my car is rather shaken up, so if you guys are selling a car, or know of a trustworthy friend, let me know. I'm looking for something that's around 2 years old. And is reliable.

I'm also investigating new cars, but I really don't want such a big car payment :( And those cars depreciate in a year so much. But at this point I'm wondering if the psychological assurance is worth $10,000.

I'm going to use my minor in psychology to say that I've mild PTSD right now.

by all means have the steering on your current car checked out, but don't feel it necessary to replace the whole car. skidding happens, has happened to me in austin.

driving around in torrential rains in new orleans was a breeze compared to driving around in tiny sprinkles here in Austin. seriously. I think there's just a difference in the way the roads are made and how they react to just a little bit of water. lots of oil.

I'll check out the steering too. Maybe by the time I get my car back I won't be so tense about driving anymore.

For a few weeks after I got rear-ended I would look with paranoia at my rear-view mirror whenever I stopped at a light. I would tense up terribly, expecting to get hit.

Eventually it went away.

There's almost certainly nothing wrong with your car that can't be fixed more cheaply by repair than replace. You're having a normal emotional reaction, and sometimes the right thing to do is to ignore it and let cool logic prevail.

Your car is probably fine. The roads in Austin are awful in the rain. I've had more skidding and sliding on Austin roads than I ever had on ice up North. I try very hard to avoid driving in rain here for that reason.

My las car was a used car, and I got it inspected by my mechanic before I bought it. I bought it from Roger Beasley Mazda, and they were coll with the inspection idea - their comment was 'If we weren't ok with it, would you want to buy from us?' and he was right.
