Suggestion for bridesmen outfit?

Ok, there's many creative/hippy types following me, and I need your help.
I need help choosing outfits for my bridespeople, and would appreciate any suggestions.
I have 4 bridespeople: 3 male, 1 female. Andy has 4 groomsmen: all male. They're wearing black suits.
I don't want my bridespeople to all wear black suit either. So I've been playing with the idea of colors.
Either suit or a tux, with color.. maybe somethiing vintage? Maybe tweed? I don't know.
And maybe the female attandant will either wear the same suit, or a dress in the same color scheme. She likes the idea of wearing a tux/suit like the rest of the men.

Bright polka-dot bow-ties?

Gaaah. I need to figure this out.

Speaking as someone who has been a bridesmaid...whatever you do, for the love of their budget, find something that isn't too expensive AND THAT CAN BE USED AGAIN (and not just as a halloween costume).

I LOVE the idea of her wearing what all the men are wearing. :)

Perhaps a nice dove gray suit with a fabulously bright (in a color YOU find appealing) silk blend shirt under it? or a regular tux or suit but with colorful tie and cumber-bun. (and a small corsage pinned on to the lapel)...can be very classy and still have color. Color for the fun of it...classy to be useful elsewhere later.

Seconded. That's all great advice and wonderful suggestions.

Keep it simple.

Tuxes are generally rented, so there are no worries about reusability. It can be a bit difficult to buy them actually (or thus my husband found when he investigated for our wedding). It's very backwards this wedding business. Brides and bridesmaids should be able to rent their dresses since reusability is difficult, and men should be able to easily buy theirs since reusability is easier.

ripresa, do you have ideas for where to acquire vintage or colored suits? Shirts, cummerbunds, vests, and ties are easy to get in any color, but suits are usually sold only in white, gray, pinstripe, and black. Although it'd be kind of appropriate if we wore white suits because we're the bride's men/maid, and then there'd be a dramatic black/white look.

I love the invitations, by the way! I'm so glad you guys used the "aaah!" "run!" on the back.

I guess I should take a walk to Men's Warehouse to see what options they have.

White is a possibility actually... hmm.. Like a white suit with a color inside? Maybe hot pink.

As for where to get vintage suits, I saw someone online saying she got hers at JC PEnny or something like that. If I can find a suit jacket for $50-$100 in a department store, I'd be happy with that.

There seems to be a lot of vintage wedding these days, I wonder how they got their stuff?
Maybe I can have all of you choose your own vintage hat. But same suit jackets? Hmm.. ponder ponder.

I love the dove grey idea.

Or you could make them all wear dresses...

I'm sure Manuel would love that.

You could dress them all up like the hunters in the Swan Lake production we saw.

Thank you. You sound like a wonderful bridesmaid!

Ha! We were just at Men's Warehouse tonight doing Josh's tuxes.

You won't like my answer, but I think women should wear dresses at weddings (but since you only have one, have her get her dress at a normal store)! I like the idea of grey though, that would look nice and less formal than black waiter tuxes. Vintage hats would be cute, too.

Men's Warehouse rents Zoot Suits! But no powder blue anymore.

Good thing we're not having a traditional wedding!

My bridesmaid is excited about wearing a suit, it just depends on if we can get one in her size.

Aaah. We were looking at zoot suits!! Too bad no powder blue, any other colors?

I saw white, ivory, black, pinstripe and that's all I remember. Maybe gray. They might be able to special order, though.

I think you should get the zoot suits and put your gal in a flapper dress!

I'm really into the idea of the suit. So if we can do one in my size, I'll probably go that route. A flapper dress isn't a bad back up, though.

What if you found a suit fabric that they all could wear and got her a dress made out of the same color fabric? That way your bridal party would all match, and ... yeah...

Why is everyone trying to put me in a dress? :)

It's your proper place, with your knees tightly closed, woman!

My apologies! You look wonderful in everything I've ever seen you wear when I look at pboyd04's photos etc. - so I'm sure whatever you wear will be perfect.

I like the dove grey idea, and am a big fan of "what the bride wants is right" idea.

That said, if they wear white, are you wearing white? Usually if the bride is wearing white, no one else does.

I know, which is why I asked if she was =)

Generally, the idea is for the bride and groom to be the focal point. If the bride and the bridespeople are all wearing the same color, she could be lost in the group.
