clotted cream is amazing.

Yesterday I had a client meeting at The Steeping Room, which is a tea shop at the Domain, and I had my first clotted cream ever. So delicious. With an apricot scone and sencha green tea. I love that place! I must remember it for future north client meetings.

Anyways, the bride was super adorable. And she found me on craigslist, which I really don't expect people to hire me from there, but it's free exposure. A lot of craigslist photographers price at 600 bucks. And I'm more then twice that. She wasn't even looking for a photographer there, but found me.

So marketing. It works.

I also had 2 new inquiries yesterday, was is my highest in one day.

Oh yeah, she booked me with the prices I had just increased with in December. AAAAaaaah. I came home and felt so happy. Just so freaking happy.

Weddings: 3/20

Then I spent the rest of the night working on paperwork, like scanning contracts and hiring second shooters. And then had a really tough time sleeping because my mind was so busy. Apparently with photography I'm a workaholic.

I also booked a 1x1 mentor session with Otto Schulze. Not cheap. I wrestled with it a little bit, but went ahead. He is based in CO, and when I did a lunch with the successful 3600/per wedding austin photographers, they told me to contact him and see if he would meet with me. He's in Dallas in a few weeks, so we're going to meet up. Otto's weddings starts at 6000. I love his work because of the artistry and also how he process them. I'm sure I'll learn a lot.

I've had clotted cream a couple times in England, but have never found it in the US. You're lucky to have found it.

The Steeping Room's one of my favorites, and I always get scones and clotted cream. Simply divine.

Congratulations on kicking off 2011 right... it sounds like you are well on your way to meeting your goals.

Can you loan me some of your drive? I seem to have misplaced all of mine.

Clotted cream and the Steeping Room are both awesome. As is having 3 weddings booked just a few weeks into January.

I know. I am insanely driven right now about the photography stuff, I think it's a culmination of various factors: 1. I tend to dive into anything new and 2. I've a network of photography peers to cheer me on, or to compete with and 3. I actually do like the work!

It's a bit weird to me too.

I think that everyone who is successfully self-employed is a work-aholic to one degree or another. IT's very intoxicating to work when you know that it is DIRECTLY benefiting you and no one else (also much harder to slack off when you know you're the only one being hurt!).

Clotted cream is to die for. Makes me wish I weren't mostly off dairy right now!

Marketing
Marketing works, I think for a wedding-photographer, the best marketing there is, is satisfied clients. Many who marry are in an age where many of their friends -also- marry, afterall.

From a distance, it seems to me you've got an excellent network - which is another reason you've got splendid chances at doing well.

Re: Marketing
Yeah, word of mouth is great, but if you've only just started, there really isn't much. so you have to advertise.

Re: Marketing
Yeah, agreed. The "Contact" link on nadinestudio is broken by the way, might wanna fix that. (It's got an anchor, but the anchor is missing a href attribute)

Re: Marketing
I retested now, and it works.

Apparently there's some javascript doing an asynchronous call and loading a contact-form from somewhere. Maybe that call just timed out when I tried it the other day. (it caused a ~2 second delay even now)

Seeing as the form is a kilobyte tops, and your pages are fairly image-heavy anyway, it could be made snappy by just being in a div with display:none that the javascript just toggle to display:block, maybe.

Or maybe something in my work-browser killed it. (not unlikely, it's got a metric ton of developer-add-ons)
