Well. Still pregnant.

I've been screening films for the austin film festival. That's been interesting.

URGH. I'm so uncomfortable!

Andy's parents came to visit. I've never seen his dad been so polite to me, rushing to open the door to the car. We ate at Lucy's Fried Chicken and Kerbey Lane.

Yesterday, Jenny swung by and picked me up, and I went to precision camera to drop of my camera for Nikon prof services appreciation day, and they did such a good job. Then I went home, and napped for 2 hours. And then Andy and I went to dinner at Shabu, a hot pot place. And then I got home. And then I slept. Wake up several times at night. And slept again. That's my typical day now. Usually with 1 or 2 outings and then I get wiped out.

The last few weeks
The last few weeks of pregnancy are quite uncomfortable, Michelle agrees. But it's easier/better if the baby stays inside, for two reasons.

First, there is a marked difference in how ready a baby is for the world at 38 weeks or 40. They suck stronger, breathe better, etc.

Second, as uncomfortable as this is, the first few weeks have their own, entirely different discomfort. There's a massive bleed from the uterus that needs to heal; the peeing situation gets better but the sleep probably won't as the baby will be crying for food possibly every few hours, day or night. Sometimes during the day cluster feeding can be every 45 minutes. Chafed nipples, baby who's hungry and sucking but nothing comes out because the milk isn't in or you haven't learned to get the latch correctly. I'm sure Michelle can remember more.

Hang in there! In a year or two the difference between 38 weeks and 40 weeks will all be a distant memory. You can get through this!

Love,

Re: The last few weeks
My blood pressure spiked by 15 points at my 33 week check up and I'm on pre-eclampsia watch.

Also, unlike some other women, I do know pretty accurately the 2 possible conception dates (2 days apart) since we did natural family planning, so I'm not under or over estimating my weeks.

And my male friend :) I think the newborn phase will be very welcomed to me at this point. My best friend had a newborn this year, and we've baby sat a 6 weeker, and we have a lot of mama friends, so I am pretty eyes wide open on this. We have a post partum doula, a MIL for 2 weeks, a meal train planned, and also hiring extra help. We are ready for a mewling newborn.

Hahahahah I may have to use that!

I've started to ignore the "when are you due?" question.

Eeegh, this part is the WORST! I remember it well.

But I lost all my judgement for women who schedule C-sections. I blame no one for deciding they can't deal with the uncertainty and physical discomfort.

I am so glad you have a post-partum doula planned. That's definitely one of my if-I-got-a-do-overs, things I'd do differently.

Is there any TV series you've wanted to check out? Now's a good time to binge watch. I recommend Orphan Black. :)

I think all my hippie mama friends will judge me if I went and got a c-section. "Too posh to push"

I have joked about it to Andy though.

It would be better if I could just sleep better. The constant waking up to pee, tossing and turning, and my pregnancy carpal tunnel are uncomfortable.

I wasn't going to hire a PP doula because money. But then I read an article about how this woman really relied on hers and it helped, so we lined one up. She's flexible on the actual hours used. I'm still hoping not to use too many hours since it's 25/hour, but it's nice knowing she's there.

I thought the binge watching TV series was when you're nursing and stuck in a sofa? I was thinking Orange is the new black!

Small Ball was a power nurser. She nursed in 15 minute increments and sometimes less. So I didn't do much nursing related binge watching.

Orange is the New Black is good, too.
