Icicles, Bitch Magazine

Yesterday I baked cookies, and another attempt at fallen cake. Both were a disappointment. The cake didn't fall again.

I like this cold. But I think I'm ready to go back to work tomorrow. And having stuff start up again.

I finished reading Bitch magazine yesterday. It felt a bit too bitter... written in a similar angry and mocking tone that Maureen Dowd writes in the NY times. Yes, I'm a feminist, but there's only so much tirades I can absorb before I get tired reading it.

that's funny. i actually really like bitch (for the most part)...i'm reading their 10 year anniversary anthology right now. in general, they tend to write articles that i find interesting; maybe i have a higher threshold for bitterness.

i read my first issue of bust magazine last week. i was liking it until the first fashion spread. it totally caught me off guard! think i'll stick w/ bitch.

I read Bitch a few times in college. It's better reading categorically than any of the Cosmo/Redbook/Self type magazines ever could be. It replaces "Let's make you feel bad about yourself, and while we're at it tell you your boyfriend's a shit, and how you can make him come in 10 seconds!" with "The world is shitty, your boyfriend is probably shitty and sex is good, have it if you want it."

I think it's more snarky and less bitter than MoDo. I can't read her columns, but her book Are Men Necessary? was pretty good. It had no insightful anything, but didn't say it would.
