3M half-marathon

woke up way early to stand at the starting line at Gateway. the wheelchairs got to go first.. i gotta hand it to those folks. very inspirational.

the weather was a bit cold, but not too bad. there was about 4000 people in the field. the first 5 miles was easy, then i felt like my energy got less and less, before a spurt towards the end. i need to figure out the whole nutrition thing, and pace myself. anyways, i did finish this time. and since the race was walker friendly, i didn't finish in the last 5.. and arrived about 40 mins before the course ended. it was nice to finish a race where there's actually food left. andy met me around mile 12, and gave me a ride back to my car.

Hey. Looks like I did better in this half marathon then in the Bison Stampede. But I didn't break my half marathon PR.. Freescale half 2005: 3:18:29

edit 2/17/07: looks like they updated my chip time to 3:18:49

Yay for not finishing last. That's got to feel a little good.

One of the guys at my church ran the 6 miles from his house to the start line, then did the half in 1:56. Loser. :-)

I ran 10 miles yesterday, so I only PR'd over Motive by three minutes (2:20:25 this time).

it does feel good. i know i'm not slow compared to the rest of the world :) but most of the world don't wake up in the morning to do races.

Congratulations! I really wish we had something like the austin distance challenge in Detroit... it would be so fun to try!

How's the marathon looking?

the distance challenge is interesting.. and it's hard to finish too.. with the number of people dropping out quite a lot. i'm surprised there isn't more around..

the marathon. is looking very long. after the 20 miler a few weeks ago i was soo pooped. and i thought.. i guess i could do another 6.2 miles.. but i would've been really slow. so i'm a bit concern about finishing in time. but hopefully i will make it!

When you're training, you want to be eating protein to hhelp build up muscle.

For the race, you probably don't want to be eating lots of protein right before - it'll weigh you down. Complex carbs would be your best bet.
