There are a ton of Scissor Sister songs that make you wanna get up and move. I could burn you a cd.
I know I also have a lot of other songs in my collection that are similar. "Get up and move" music is my favorite kind.

Mike Doughty's Haughty Melodic album has some good get-up-and-move tracks.
So does Soul Coughing, actually.

It doesn't get any better for running than Daft Punk's Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger. Beyond that, I used to run to a lot of Soul Coughing and random anime songs.

I only ever listen to music when on a treadmill, where I've programmed in my pace. Anywhere else fucks me up, because I try to fit my strides with the beats, which sucks when I get a slow piece of music.

I'd sooner recommend to go without headphones and listen to your own breathing and find the trance zone.

Of course a lot depends on personal taste.

I've got one of those "best club dance hits of [year]" CDs that I use a lot. Aerosmith has some energetic stuff ('Rag Doll' is a favorite), as do Pink ('Don't let me get me', '18 wheeler', 'mizundastood', 'get the party started'). A lot of classic rock has that pushy backbeat I like. Stuf that's between rock and country/folk/blues is a little more mellow but can still have impulsion (think Simon & Garfunkle, Fleetwood Mac, Indigo Girls, Alabama), and some of the 90s country (the stuff that's good for line dance) is prety rockin if you can get into it (Garth Brooks 'ain't goin down', Trisha Yearwood 'wrong side of Memphis', Shania Twain 'any man of mine').

I keep meaning to make a running playlist for myself.

If you like techno (I don't) you can check out the podrunner podcast. A lot of people like it, or so I've heard. It's certainly an easy way to get a lot of upbeat music quickly.

Personally, I got so sick of my workout playlist that I either go with NPR/Running podcasts, audio books or (more often these days) nothing.

Good luck, and i hope it goes well! yay 26.2!

Rap music helps me run, especially Tupac. Good luck this weekend!

Run Lola Run

If you like metal, then for a 5 minute finisher -- Anthrax "Crush". I'm planning to use it for the Congress 1-miler in May.

Check out DJ Steve Boy -- he does workout mixes of about an hour of electronic music at specified BPMs. A lot of runners on runners swear by them. Heck, there's been at least three posts on running music in the past two months on runners -- check it out.

But seriously, "Crush" is total leg-thumping hardcore I-don't-care-if-I-can't-breathe awesomeness.

Cheers,
Matt

It's not good for my running stride, but Megadeth's "Die Dead Enough" makes me want to run, or at least hurt. :-)

I can't punch hard enough (and I run)
I can't kick high enough (and I run)
I can't take pain enough (and I run)
I can't die dead enough

Cheers,
Matt

eurodance chanel or one of the trance channels has what you want.

you can try to find the songs they play on itunes, but it's near impossible.
